The Oldest Bee

Michelle has a thing for cute bees. I don't think she ever accepted that Georgia Tech's mascot was actually a yellow jacket. Her small collection of fuzzy stuffed bees perched above her desk showed her school pride.

When I saw this link on Reddit today I figured it was a bee in amber.

Later in the day Michelle emailed me about how this link had misled her. She clicked it fully expecting to see a cute close-up of an older bee, round and still fuzzy but graying perhaps. That's the world she lives in, a world where people offer up images of cute geriatric bees that have achieved respectable ages. Oldest Bee Ever!

Instead she saw the image of a barely discernible bee mummified in amber, millions of years old and heavily decayed. Maybe you had to be there, but it was cute.
