Windows Blocking I/O

It's frustrating how copying from a CD or burning a CD completely paralyzes Windows. I'm doing the same thing on a Linux box and it's fine, which is good because when I'm copying large files I like to browse a few web pages. Windows crawls and wants me to pity it--look how hard I'm working Steven!
